Norman & Margaret Ashton from Bolton received £8,660 - Halifax
Mr & Mrs Ashton were contacted by Halifax back in 2002 because they had paid in a cheque, the proceeds of a maturing endowment policy. They were encouraged to transfer it into ISAs which over a period of time lost money. This was particularly disappointing as they could not afford to lose money in this way, although they finally surrendered the investments in 2008 in an attempt to prevent further losses. In 2013 having seen an advert in their local newspaper they contacted Goodwin Barrett and spoke with Senior Claims Adviser Steve Wise to discuss their experience.
Mr & Mrs Ashton were advised that simply complaining on the basis that they had lost money would not be successful and with no paperwork, detailed enquiries would have to be made on their behalf. Once the investment information had been obtained and, following a detailed discussion about Mr & Mrs Ashton’s circumstances at the time the ISAs were sold, it became apparent there were errors in the advice.
A detailed report was sent to Halifax asking them to investigate. Within a few weeks a reply was received from Halifax agreeing that the advice was unsuitable and awarding Mr & Mrs Ashton £8,660. A delighted Mr Ashton in a letter of thanks said “I feel I must write to say how pleased I was about the result” and went on to say “I was treated very well by the staff, who advised us and kept us informed every step of the way”
