Robert Roden from Manchester got back £2,700 from Halifax
Mr Roden was purchasing his first home in August 1996. He sought mortgage advice from Halifax in order to complete on the purchase. In addition to making his new mortgage payments, Mr Roden was advised by the Halifax to make new regular contributions to an ISA. Mr Roden was happy to act upon this advice.
However, as this was his first owned property, Mr Roden found it difficult to maintain the payments to his ISA as well as meeting all his other financial obligations. He believed he had no option but to cancel the payments to the ISA and was disappointed to find that the value of the ISA was in fact less than the amount he had struggled to pay in.
Mr Roden approached us for our assistance. Investigation of Mr Roden’s experience clearly showed that the adviser had not given sufficient consideration to his cash flow requirements as a first time property owner. It was inevitable that the customer would be unable to fulfil the agreed payments to this savings plan which did not suit his risk profile.
We reported our findings to Halifax and Mr Roden was delighted when he was awarded £2742 to cover his losses, interest and compensation.
