Patrick Caulfield from Altrincham got back £16,000 from Barclays
Mr and Mrs Caulfield were contacted by their bank in 2007 after Mr Caulfield retired. He had received his retirement lump sum into his account and the branch staff noticed this and suggested an appointment with a financial adviser. Mr and Mrs Caulfield attended this appointment and despite making the adviser aware that they were intending to move house in the very near future, were advised to invest a large sum of money over a period of 5 years.
They also made the adviser aware of a number of other factors which should have been taken into account when he gave them investment advice, but these were clearly disregarded. Subsequently, Mr and Mrs Caulfield surrendered their investment and lost a large proportion of the funds. They saw an advert for our services and up until this point, did not realise that anything further could be done. After a detailed discussion with the couple it was clear that the advice given to them was unsuitable and we lodged a formal complaint with Barclays.
Barclays investigated this matter and agreed with our findings awarding Mr and Mrs Caulfield just over £16,000.
