Paul Sheppard from Penton got back £2,000 from HSBC
Mr Sheppard had recently taken a lump sum from his pension plan and had paid the proceeds of this into his HSBC account. The bank recommended that Mr Sheppard placed his money into a Stocks and Shares ISA for the medium to long term, even though Mr Sheppard had mentioned that he may need access to this money in the near future.
As it turned out, he needed access to his money within four months of setting up his investment and was shocked to see that the value of his investment had fallen by £1,500. He needed this money to assist him in finishing some home improvements and before the investment was set up he had mentioned this to the financial adviser.
After a thorough investigation we established that it would have been more appropriate to place his money in a no risk investment, especially as he had never taken risk before and the investment was far from being “safe” as he was informed.
After sending a report to the HSBC, they agreed with our findings and awarded Mr Sheppard an amount of £2,000 made up of a refund of his losses together with interest and compensation.
