Preston Horton from Bristol got back £900 from Halifax
Mr Horton had built up a healthy balance in his savings account over a period of time. He was approached by his local branch who suggested a meeting with its financial adviser. He was retired from work and receiving a pension and any extra growth on these savings would have been a real benefit. The adviser recommended that Mr Horton place his money in an Individual Savings Account (ISA) for the medium to long term. This would hopefully produce a better return than was available from deposit based savings accounts.
At the outset of the meeting Mr Horton confirmed to the adviser that he did not want any risk or any investment that was linked to shares. He had a previous bad experience of investing and did not wish to repeat this. Despite this the adviser placed Mr Horton’s money into a risk based ISA. He only became aware of this fact when he received his statement and noticed that he was losing money and he immediately cashed the investment in.
Mr Horton approached us wondering whether we could help. We carried out a thorough and detailed investigation and established that this was a blatant mis-sale.
A report was prepared and sent to Halifax and it agreed that the advice Mr Horton received was incorrect and awarded him £900, made up of a refund of his losses together with interest and compensation.
